At the very first WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view emanating from the heart of England, at the infamous Wembley Arena, "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, on his home turf, defeated Bret "The Hitman" Hart for the WWF Intercontinental Championship in a history-making moment. After the critically acclaimed bout, Bulldog celebrated with his wife and the former champion, Bret, in the middle of the ring to a standing ovation and a waving Union flag.
