The Month's News

GFW and Pop TV have come to terms on a new deal that will see the network carry the shows in 2018. Details will soon be revealed.

Regarding Alberto El Patron's status with GFW, he is not leaving the company despite being stripped of the GFW Global Championship earlier in the month at the Live Destination-X event by a returning Jim Cornette. According to reports, Alberto was scheduled to be in a major segment that would ultimately lead to his GFW return at AAA's TripleMania event this month as apart of the companys partnership, however, due to AAA promotion secretly copyrighting the 'Alberto El Patron' name behind Alberto's back, he refused to film the angle and appear at the event.

A recent Robbie E interview cleared the air on his GFW status. He says he is still with the company and believes that he will be back, and better than ever now that he has had time to become a serious wrestler and move on from his comedic past.

The Wrestling Observer notes this month that the WWE's UK Championship Tournament earlier this year was a big flop, with the company losing money in the process, however, the UK shows they were planning haven't been cancelled as of this writing.

At AAA's big TripleMania event, it made the headlines for all the wrong reasons as the beloved Sexy Star went rogue during the match and purposely set out to hurt her three opponents [GFW's Rosemary, Lady Shani and Ayako Hamada] during the four way match. However, it would be Rosemary who would suffer the most as she would have her arm pulled out of its socket by Star who used a shoot armbar which ended the match. Shani was said to be furious with Star and wanted to fight her backstage. Since then the wrestling world including its biggest names such as Gail Kim, Mia Yim, EC3, Cody Rhodes, Allie, Karen Jarrett, have condemned and disowned Star for her utterly disgraceful act. WrestleCade promotion also removed Star from its events due to the incident, which recieved alot of praise for its moral over money outlook. As for Rosemary, after a period of silence would post a full response on the act, calling Star a liar for trying to make the lockeroom believe that it was a work. Rosemary would also praise Vampiro for the way he acted, the AAA lockeroom, and GFW among others for their consideration.

This month was filled with heart pounding tension, with the wrestling world hoping and praying for the best for legend Ric Flair, who had severe health problems and was in a critical condition. Ric Flair's Fiancee, Wendy Barlow, posted the following on Flair's condition; "I took Ric to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. From that moment on it all seems like a nightmare, multiple organ problems. Not to go into too many details, I want everyone to know he still needs prayers as he is still in critical condition. And no, he did not have colon surgery, it was another surgery!" Since then Flair has been steadily coming around, and Ric and Wendy would post updates on 29/08. In Wendy's post she said that Ric is doing really well, and that he will be starting physical therapy soon. And in Ric's first post since before his bad spell, he said; "Sometimes you have to get knocked down lower than you have ever been, to stand up taller than you ever were. Naitch WILL be back!" We here at Through The Ropes wish a speedy and healthy recovery to the Nature Boy. #TheMan

It was not only Ric Flair who had a bad month, Fellow legend Bobby Heenan was forced to cancel upcoming events due to being “immobile and unable to travel.” Heenan has suffered from complications stemming from throat cancer in recent years that changed the legends life entirely. Heenan also suffered a broken hip from a fall last year, and since has greatly reduced his public appearances at wrestling events. The Fanboy Expo sent out the following; "Unfortunately Bobby Heenan will not be able to join us for Totally Awesome Weekend. Bobby is currently immobile and unable to travel :( Please send out your prayers and positive vibes to him and his family." We here at Through The Ropes send nothing but the very best to the Brain, his family, friends and fans.

On 04/08, Eva Marie officially was released from the WWE after a four year stint with the company.

On 12/08, Angelina Love would have her request for her release from GFW granted. Love posted on Twitter; "I asked for my release from @IMPACTWRESTLING and it was granted today. Thank you for the years of fun and much love to all my fans!!!"

On 17/08, GFW/TNA Star and color commentator 'The Pope' D’Angelo Dinero announced his departure from the company. Pope wrote; “The clock is ticking, never standing still, yet memories will come, in floods they will. This was no surprise as things began to click, when negotiations stalled because of arithmetics. In arriving hello is easy to say, in departing it’s different as some will sway. But no not me as I look towards the sky, for there’s a reason I’ve always walked with my head held high. Although the past will come trickling around and through, the future is bright with much things for me to do. So thanks to my friends and staff who showed me goodwill, because those memories are the only moments that makes the clock stand still.” ~PHS #GoodBye #ThankYou #Pray4Flair #WWE #Wrestling #Sports #Entertainment #Impact #Boxing #HOF #Smile #Nothing #But #Love

Japanese Womens Superstar Io Shirai has returned to her homeland and will not be signing with WWE. Io had made her farewell speach at World Wonder Ring Stardom months back in preparation for a WWE career, however, During a WWE physical evaluation, a neck injury was discovered and halted all plans. It was supposedly believed that she was still going to be working with WWE once she had recovered, but Io has returned to Stardom as reports suggest her WWE contract offer was pulled.

Alberto El Patron and Paige went on the Busted Open Radio with Bully Ray and Dave Lagreca to clear the air on the big controversy last month. Here are the highlights of that interview courtesy of Busted open Radio. "Paige said she and Alberto shouldn't be ashamed of having an argument in public the way normal couples do, and people need to relax. Alberto said they refuse to be like celebrities, they just want to live their lives normally. Both agreed that 90 percent of what was said in the media was false. On GFW's decision to suspend him, Alberto said that rules need to apply to everyone the same and that he agreed with GFW's decision to suspend him. Whether he is innocent or not he understands that he needed to be suspended, especially due to his experience as Combate Americas, for the company to conduct their own investigation." Speaking of Alberto, He and Paige have been renting hotel rooms for some of the families that were affected and ivicted from their homes due to the hurricane Harvey. A respectful gesture and a Class act by the couple. #Respect

Jim Cornette shocked the world and froze hell over when he walked out onto the stage of GFW's Live Destination-X event and fired Bruce Prichard! Then as if that wasn't enough, the night would also see Taryn Terrell return, and Petey Williams return and deliver a Canadian Destroyer! Indie Womens stars Keira Hogan and Hania the Huntress have signed with GFW this month.

Samoa Joe could be out of action for a reported four weeks due to an knee injury he sustained at a WWE Live Event later in the month. Joe was replaced on the live event he missed by Bray Wyatt, who filled in and worked with John Cena. Xavier Woods on SmackDown 'wood' also suffer a knee injury at the 28/08 SmackDown Live event in Texarkana, Arkansas which saw The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Woods take on Breezango. Woods was helped to the back as he couldn't make it on his own.

Kushida won the first ever What Culture Pro Wrestling World Cup of Pro Wrestling by defeating British sensation Will Ospreay in the finals.

Johnny Mundo, fka Morrison is now a GFW Superstar! Mundo, will be working under the new guise of Johnny Impact! A teaser for Johnny's debut aired on Destination-X to end the show off, and would make a surprise entrance in the following weeks Gauntlet for the Gold match featuring 20 GFW stars.

Shelton Benjamin has once again signed and actually returned to WWE on SmackDown. Shelty was supposed to debut last year, however, due to failing the medicals due to a unknown torn rotator cuff, his return was off the books.

Bobby Roode made his SmackDown debut match on the 22/08 edition of the show. Roode defeated Aiden English in his first main roster match.

Chris Jericho's one match return wasn't a planned thing, or at least on Chris' end, as he only showed up to WWE to be apart of Southpaw Regional Wrestling show. Injured WWE star Scott Dawson's estimated time for return to the ring return is December, This injury ruined the planned mega match between The Revival and The Hardy's at Summerslam, which left the "Iconic" brothers being moved to the Pre-Show on the biggest event of the Summer.

Alberto El Patron relinquished his GFW Global title prior to Destination-X after the controversy of the Orlando Airport incident. This decision was El Patron's idea.

Japanese pro wrestler and mixed martial artist Yoshihiro Takayama, 50, since suffering a severe spinal injury in May time, has become paralyzed. We wish The Japanese Legend all the very best.

GFW stars Sienna and Trevor Lee have lashed out at WWE this month in two different reasons. The first ever unified GFW Knockouts champion Sienna lashed out at WWE's Charlotte Flair for mirroring herself and copying Sienna's trademark look and signiture pose. Sienna, since her early days has worn the feathers dress garment and raised her pinkie fingers up. Sienna said on twitter in a message to Charlotte; "I ignored the feathers & the makeup, but the pinky? Really? If you need anything else from me, let me know. @MsCharlotteWWE #PinkiesUp." Whilst Lee's gripe wasn't as such a copying issue, but letting the world know he thinks WWE 205 Live is "garbage". Speaking of Sienna, she replied on Twitter to a "fan" who ripped GFW's supposed pay issues and new contract details in great fashion whilst defending the company. "Every time a mark comments about @IMPACTWRESTLING's pay or contracts, I laugh & book myself a tropical vacation. Enjoy your 9-5 you hate. Also not true, but I can only speak for myself. Keep acting like you have a contract though"

In an act that we here at Through The Ropes are over the moon with, Cody Rhodes and WrestleCircus teamed up to raise money for a non-profit animal charity in Texas earlier this month, and they even got pets rescued in doing so. Following his match with Scorpio Sky at the show, Rhodes auctioned off his boots and the money raised was donated to Austin Pets Alive, along with donating the money he received from online Twitch tips. The runners of WrestleCircus matched the tips raised during the show and donated to the great cause. #DontBuyRescueInstead

On August 3, WWE officially released HoHo Lun from the company.

Both Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan are both intent on returning to the ring to wrestle again. Bryan, who suffered several concussions was forced by WWE doctors into retiring, but Brie reveals that Daniel is desperate to wrestle again, even if its not in a WWE ring.

The Karen Jarrett and Braun Strowman "incident" was blown well out of proportion according to Karen, who cleared the air on the situation.

Longest Reigning NXT Womens champion Asuka has relinquished her title having never been beaten as she prepares to make her ascension to the Main Roster of the WWE. Asuka in her last title defense against Ember Moon suffered a broken right collarbone at NXT's Takeover: Brooklyn III event.

Brooke Adams, better known simply as Brooke in GFW [fka TNA], is pondering a "selfish" desire to make a return to the ring, despite recently becoming a mother. Brooke, who recently became a mum, has worries that an injury could prevent her from looking after her son, hence the heavy decision on a return. Friend Taryn Terrell recently returned to GFW and is back wrestling despite being a mother.

GFW's Triple Crown champion Eddie Edwards at the August 26 Pro Wrestling NOAH show saw Edwards win the Global Honored Crown Heavyweight Championship belt, making history in doing so by becoming the first ever American NOAH GHC Heavyweight Champion.
