News of the Month (December '17): Former WCW Star "Z-Man" Tom Zenk sadly passed away at the young age of 59 on Saturday, December 9 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Zenk started his career in 1984 in the AWA, then would go to WWF in 1986 where he would go to join Rick Martel to form the Can-Am Connection. Just as the team became tag team champions, when they defeated Magnificent Muraco and Bob Orton at WrestleMania III, Zenk would leave the company due to a financial dispute. Following a short tenure in AJPW and AWA, Zenk was WCW bound in September 1989. Zenk's career ended in October of 1996 in the American Wrestling Federation, after leaving WCW in 1994. ■ WWE Superstar Rich Swann was arrested on Sunday, December 10 on the charges of battery and false imprisonment of an adult, namely Vannarah Riggs, aka Su Yung. The Gainesville Police Department reports that Swann critiqued Yung's match during a drive, which started an argument, and led to him grabbing her in a headlock and dragging her back to the car. Following the news breaking out, WWE indefinitely suspended Swann. Here was the announcement; "WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been indefinitely suspended following his arrest." ■ ECW Royalty Rob Van Dam has spoken out about suffering a concussion at a PCW event on November 12, 2016, which has left him suffering from Visual Impairment and a heavily reduced paypacket in the process. RVD revealed recently that this injury has disqualified him from ever working with WWE again, Which means his merchandising contract with the company was not renewed after July, 2017. ■ Impact Wrestling has announced two new Vice Presidents in Scott D'Amore and Don Callis, who alongside Ed Nordholm, will take the company into the new era. This three member Executive Committee will have "overall responsibility" for developing the creative direction and managing the company's business plan. Despite this new position, Callis will remain working with NJPW on commentary, along with actually being apart of the team running Impact Wrestling as a whole. ■ Legend Konnan parted ways with The Crash Lucha Libre promotion, of which he helped become a reality. While not for certain, It appears although the two sides did not end on the best of terms. The Crash's statement read; “Not being able to comply to the Crash Lucha Libre code of ethic, is something that we do not tolerate in this company. With that being said, We now announce that Carlos Santiago Espada “Konnan”, will no longer be working with The Crash.” ■ Former Women's Champion Candice Michelle had her well deserved retirement match in Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore 36: Blizzard Brawl event, where she faced and defeated fellow veteran Lisa Marie Varon, aka Victoria and Tara. #ThankyouCandice
RELEASES: Konnan from Crash Lucha Libre. ■ INJURIES: Paige suffered an injury on the 27/12 RAW live event at the Nassau Coliseum when she took a stiff kick to the back from Sasha Banks which resulted in Paige heading to the back unable to complete the match. | Dean Ambrose, after undergoing an MRI scan has been revealed to have suffered a high-grade torn tricep tendon injury. Ambrose underwent surgery on the injury on December 19, and later updates reveal that he could be out as long as 9 months. | WWE's Sheamus is suffering from spinal stenosis, which he has been rehabbing, But this injury is what has ended many careers such as Edge in 2011. | | Mia Yim, fka Jade in Impact Wrestling, is out of action for the next several months due to an injury involving her leg. Mia noted that her return will be around March/April of 2018. | The NXT Sensation The Velveteen Dream was announced by NXT GM William Regal that he is out of action due to an injury. Dream was replaced by Johnny Gargano in the Fatal 4 Way qualifier against Kassius Ohno on the 06/12 episode of NXT. Dream is expected to return in January 2018. | Noam Dar underwent successful surgery on December 14 to repair a torn meniscus, a bucket handle tear in his left knee. Dar is believed to have suffered from leg issues for weeks, however, the complete tear took place on the November 27 episode of Raw in the fatal four-way match. Estimated time of return is Five months.
News of the Month (December '17) Continued: Will second time be lucky for Vince McMahon as he looks to revive the much criticised XFL Football League in a new venture. Vince sold 3.34 million shares (Aprox $100 million) in WWE to fund his new company Alpha Entertainment, LLC. An official report states Alpha Entertainment was "established to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment landscapes, including professional football." Whilst this new venture is going to take up alot of time, McMahon has no intentions of standing down from his position as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WWE "for the foreseeable future." ■ Jeff Jarrett and Global Force Wrestling are back! In good news for the legendary wrestler and promoter Jeff Jarrett, Who had just left rehab this past month after having a stressful year, was contacted by Music City Bowl to come back and provide a night of wrestling for them on the 27th of December. The event was put on by Tried and True Wrestling in Nashville, TN, but was promoted as a GFW event, and featured a return to the ring for Jarrett, and appearances by James Storm, Ricky Steamboat and Jerry Lawler. While the comeback remained fairly low-ki, Jarrett and wife Karen want to grow the brand of GFW back up and expand the company. ■ Celeste Bonin [fka Kaitlyn in WWE] will make her return to the wrestling ring on February 10th for Coastal Championship Wrestling. Also on the show will be Al Snow, who will also be making his CCW debut, and ECW Legend Super Crazy. ■ WrestleCon 2018 News! - It will be hosted in The Sheraton on Canal Street, New Orleans on the WWE WrestleMania week, Starting on Thursday 4th April, through to Saturday 7th April. Each of the events will feature the stars of the following; On Thursday, Wildkat Entertainment and WrestleCon Supershow. On Friday, The Crash, Revolution Pro Wrestling (UK), and Impact Wrestling. On Saturday, Pro Wrestling Revolver, CZW and after NXT Show ends, House of Hardcore will round up the proceedings of the In-ring part of the event. Some of the stars booked for the show include Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Road Warrior Animal, Tony Atlas, Ax, Smash, Brutus Beefcake, Sabu and tons more! ■ WWE Lawsuit News: Marcus Bagwell, aka Buff Bagwell, and Scott Levy, aka Raven, have both had their claims of being owed royalties by WWE from the WWE Network dropped by the court with prejudice. This stops Raven and Buff from making future claims against WWE again. ■ WWE Mixed Challenge, a new show starting on Tuesday, January 16th, 2018, will feature stars from both Raw and SmackDown in single elimination mixed tag team tournament to win $100,000 for a charity of their choosing. Fans will get the chance to pick the line-ups and match stipulations and more. ■ WCW Superstar Buff Bagwell will be retiring from in-ring action in May 2018 after one final Independant Match. ■ For the first time ever, The women of WWE will get the chance to fight in a special Royal Rumble Match at the 2018 Royal Rumble event. Stephanie McMahon made the announcement on WWE RAW on 18/12. ■ Actor Macaulay Culkin assisted Swoggle in his match at Bar Wrestling in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 14. When things got rough for Swoggle, Culkin took to ringside and threw some marbles in the ring in classic Home Alone fashion, Then took to the sky's in a leap from the top rope to Swoggle's opponents. ■ Alberto El Patron continued his display of compassion by helping out the Salvation Army in San Antonio, Texas to distribute over eight thousand toys to Families in need for Christmas time. Alberto spent eight hours in-front of a Wal-Mart building awareness and collecting donations to assist the Salvation Army. Big Shout out to Alberto for this great act of generosity. ■ Former Wrestling Manager Yamaguchi San suffered a stroke and is fighting for his life. His brother Shunsuke Yamaguchi provided the updates. We wish all the best for Mr Yamaguchi in his big fight. ■ House of Hardcore will hold a new tournament starting on January 26, to determine the first ever House of Hardcore Twitch TV Champion. The title was named after the streaming service Twitch, which is the home of Live streaming House of Hardcore content. The show on the 27th will feature Joey Mathews, Nick Aldis, Shane Douglas, Tommy Dreamer, Super Crazy, Brian Cage, Willie Mack, Matt Riddle, Kevin Kross, Swoggle, Lisa Marie Varon, Billy Gunn, Crazy Steve, Eddie Kingston, Luchasaurus and others. ■ Brian Kendrick was taken to Hospital after his match with Hideo Itami on the 25/12 episode of RAW on Christmas Day. Kendrick suffered a fractured orbital bone and a fractured nasal bridge when he took a very bad GTS [Go To Sleep] move from Itami. While Surgery is said to be unnecessary, Kendrick will be out of action until he heals and recovers from the injury. Following that match on the Boxing Day episode of 205 Live on the night after, Itami's finishing move was the Rings of Saturn submission hold, which begs to wonder if WWE has banned Itami from using the GTS. ■ Wrestling great Hulk Hogan has become embroiled in another lawsuit in the state of Florida, involving the sex tape leak several years back which ended with Hogan beat Gawker in a huge victory resulting in a $140.1 million paycheck, and Gawker going broke. This time round Hogan is suing Mike Calta and Matt Loyd of The Bone Radio Station for allegedly "stealing, disseminating, using and exploiting illegally-recorded video." ■ Impact Wrestling will begin the PPV schedule of 2018 with the Lockdown event being reverted back to a PPV event again. The Lockdown event which has been an annual tradition for near a decade will take place live on April 22.
