April was a sad month for Professional Wrestling, as four legends of the sport passed away. Firstly, Wrestling Legend Johnny Valiant (real name Tommy Sullivan) passed away after being hit by truck on 04/04 at the age of 71, RIP. American-Wrestling Legend Bruno Sammartino passed away at the age of 82 at his home in Pittsburgh, PA, on 18/04. The 'Italian Stallion' throughout his storied career headlined and sold out countless events at the infamous MSG arena in New York, and would receive a special tribute outside of the arena that he helped become one of the prime locations for wrestling and sporting events, RIP. Terry Simms, who worked in Global Wrestling Federation and United States Wrestling Association passed away in early April at the age of 55 in his home of Kentucky, RIP. And Legend Paul Jones passed away at the age of 75. The legend of the NWA Mid-Atlantic territory, travelled the world bringing his brand of heelism to the wrestling world, RIP. ■ Brock Lesnar re-signed with WWE prior to his WrestleMania 34 match against Roman Reigns, however, the new deal is even more extravagant that before. Details emerge that Lesnar will be paid per appearance when and where WWE will want him, as to being signed to a specific number of dates. The match itself at 'Mania which was the main event went very badly for the company in many ways. Apart from the fact that Vince McMahon or the crowd weren't happy with the match, or the fact that Lesnar and Reigns went off script and did a blood spot the hard way, via legitimate strikes to Reign's head resulting in alot of blood, and not to mention Lesnar and Vince getting very heated after the match in the Gorilla Position. ■ Listen up grapple fans!! World of Sport Wrestling returns for a new ten part series exclusive to ITV (UK). The shows will be sixty minutes long. The show's last airing was a Christmas special back in 2016 that saw a great return for the nations much loved wrestling show. Tom McLennan, Creative Director of ITV Studios Entertainment said; “There is a massive indie wrestling scene in the UK and a strong nostalgia for the wrestling shows of our youth. WOS Wrestling will combine the best of the past with incredible talent available today to make a fun, exciting and thrilling show that the whole family can enjoy.” ■ Impact Wrestling's Redemption show went down as a roaring success, with rave reviews from fans worldwide, aswell as praise from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter for it's effort into designing the video package for the returning Slammiversary event [Sunday, July 22 from The Rebel Complex in Toronto, Canada], calling it one of the best seen. Tessa Blanchard made her debut at the show revealing her status as the newest Knockout on the roster. Impact executive Don Callis also made his Impact commentary debut at the event and will continue to be apart of the announce team going forward. ■ For the first time ever, WWE and Impact Wrestling have worked together for the new Hardy Brothers DVD set, Twist of Fate: Best of the Hardy Boyz. WWE will be using Impact Wrestling footage of Matt and Jeff during the Broken Universe era, Which features the GWN logo on all footage. WWE also give a plug to the GWN website to relive all of The Hardy's Impact Wrestling content. The DVD was released in the UK on April 30. On the topic of Hardy's, Jeff Hardy became a Grand Slam champion in WWE on 16/04 by defeating Jinder Mahal to capture his first United States Championship, which was the only WWE title he needed to become Grand Slam Champion. Congratulations to Jeff! ■ Memphis Wrestling Legend Jerry Lawler suffered a stroke two weeks prior to WrestleMania 34. Luckily for the King, He made a stunning recovery in a matter of days and returned to his normal schedule, including a return to WWE at the WrestleMania event to call the Andre the Giant battle royale alongside longtime commentary partner Jim Ross. ■ Al Snow has purchased Ohio Valley Wrestling, The company that worked as the developmental grounds for both WWE and Impact Wrestling over the years. After 21 years since it's creation by Danny Davis in 1997. Due to Davis finally retiring, Snow will take over as lead executive. Snow revealed his plans as head of OVW, "What I have in mind is to create a great developmental center for wrestling talent to come find themselves, learn their craft, and learn it from truly experienced professional wrestlers," ■ UK phenomenon Zack Sabre Jr has left Evolve Wrestling for a full time New Japan Pro Wrestling career. ZSJ has worked with Evolve, along with many other Indie shows over the years whilst remaining with NJPW. ■ Lucha Underground stars Angelico and Jack Evans have announced their departure from the company. Regarding Evans, He replied to a fan on Twitter who asked him about the departure. He said that the company lied to him about the contract, but the main reason for his departure was a fellow talent in the company. ■ Alberto El Patron, who no showed the Impact vs. Lucha Underground event has given his reasoning for the absence, leading to his release from the company and being removed from his highly anticipated "first time" ever clash with Austin Aries at Impact Redemption, that ended up becoming a three way between champion Aries, Fenix and Pentagon. Patron says he had a Family Situation, which required him being at home. Patron said that his Family is his priority. ■ Japanese Wrestling Legend Super Strong Machine, has retired from the ring after over 40 years in the ring. The 61 year old worked in both NJPW and AJPW, attaining Tag Team gold in both companies. The legend will be commemorated at NJPW's Kizuna Road event at the Korakuen Hall on June 19, in a special ceremony. ■ WWE's supercouple John Cena and Nikki Bella have seperated after a six year relationship. Out of respect we will not go into further detail. ■ Impact Wrestling have signed a new deal with 5Spike in Great Britain, remaining at the 11pm timeslot. ■ Women's wrestling great Gail Kim has continued to voice her feelings on the WWE's use of women wrestlers, with a recent jibe at Stephanie McMahon, Who Gail claims could and did have the ability to fight for women years ago, but did nothing. Gail, also says that even now, the only reason her Steph's motivation for the Women's Revolution is because of fans, the "me too" movement, and financial gain from how hot Womens wrestling has become thanks to stars like Charlotte, Ronda Rousey, and other promotions that have been displaying women at the top of their game for years. ■ Former Impact/TNA Executive Vice President "Big" John Gaburick has returned to WWE after a near 4 year stint with the Impact (then TNA under Dixie Carter). ■ Katarina Waters, aka Winter in TNA, returned to the company under it's new management and worked at the last set of Impact Wrestling tapings.
