Very sadly on the second day of the new year, The wrestling world lost one of it's most recognisable and adored personalities in "Mean" Gene Okerlund at the age of 76. Gene's son, Todd, Revealed that Gene had undergone surgery for three kidney transplants, and tragically suffered a fall leading up to his passing. The legend would be honoured by longtime friend Hulk Hogan on the first Raw of the new year. Hogan would also be the man who would induct Gene into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006 when his name was called up for the yearly award. We offer our deepest sympathies to all the family, friends and fans of Mr. Okerlund. RIP Mean Gene 1942-2019 â– I WANT TV TIME! - It's inevitable when you have hundreds of wrestlers that all want pushes, and you have TV time, you are going to have unhappy talents. However, That's the same case for stars both at the bottom of the pile and even those who are at the top, as is the case with Dean Ambrose. Ambrose, due to being unhappy with his character direction, has handed in his notice to WWE and will be leaving the company after WrestleMania 35. Details have emerged that Dean's new contract offer see's him receiving a payrise, But money isn't apparently the issue here. However, on the other end of the scale, you have Hideo Itami, fka Kenta, who has attained very little, if any success at all since his move from NXT to 205 Live. Itami has had enough, and handed in his notice which was granted by the company on 30/01. â– WWE has followed in the footsteps of Impact Wrestling and other women's wrestling companies, as they reveal the return of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships, that were last seen in the company in 1989, held by the Glamour Girls (Martin & Kai). The first Women's Tag Team Champions of the new era will be determined at the Elimination Chamber PPV. â– All Elite News: On Tuesday January 8th, All Elite Wrestling held it's first rally titled the Double or Nothing Rally [named after the first event under the AEW banner] at the TIIA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. The event saw many announcements and revelations, here are some of the notes from the event and other notes from details revealed after the event. The company announced that it has a first partner promotion, A promotion in China called OWE. The mega signings of legend Chris Jericho [who will still be able to work NJPW], The British superstar Pac [formerly Neville], Along with the Elite [Cody Rhodes, Brandi, Hangman Page and The Young Bucks], Plus more including Joey Janella, MJF, Penelope Ford, Britt Baker, and the entire team of SoCal Uncensored [Daniels, Kazarian and Sky]. Details regarding positions of the Elite in the new brand show that Cody and The Bucks will be Executive Vice Presidents, whilst Cody will also be a reveal producer. Legend Billy Gunn and BJ Whitmer will be working behind the scenes. The first All Elite event will be Double or Nothing, that will be held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 25th. â– As All Elite Wrestling gets itself into position to grab the wrestling world by the throat, WWE anf other promotions have braced themselves regarding talent by getting them locked down into contracts quickly. WWE have had a shopping spree as of late by snapping up a wide range of stars, past and present, for positions both on and off-screen. This list includes Impact/TNA legends Abyss and Sonjay Dutt, who both were granted releases from Impact in order to sign with the WWE in producer roles. Jeff Jarrett made his return to WWE TV at the Royal Rumble with a surprise appearance in the Rumble match, however, it has emerged that Jarrett has signed a new WWE deal to see him work as a producer behind the scenes. Jerry Lawler has also signed a new deal with WWE for another two years. â– If you truly wondered if Impact Wrestling was getting on the right track, it has been revealed that the company almost came within inches of signing Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho to deals. Both Y2J and Omega would have continued to have worked with NJPW, But Omega would have made thirty appearances a year for Impact. â– Austrian superstar Walter has signed and debuted with WWE under the newly formed NXT UK brand. â– Sammy Guevara has departed from Major League Wrestling.
