Some time has passed since the first time ever clash between The Undertaker and Goldberg, the respective faces of WWF/E and WCW, and I felt now was as suitable a time as any to drop some analysis on the bout that stirred up quite a frenzy in the wrestling universe. Firstly, It can't be ignored that the match wasn't what we wanted, far from it, But what could we really expect? A 5 star, fifty minute clash?... No! If you were, then you are clearly following the wrong profession.
The match, despite its unfortunate flaws, still went to a finish which in my books is so commendable considering the conditions that they were already in even before the match suffered a major handicap when Goldberg suffered a concussion and loss of blood. I take my hat off to Goldberg and Undertaker for continuing on in a bout that took a turn for the worse once Goldberg ran headfirst into the steel ring post. Many who have ridiculed the match said that they didn't know that Bill had suffered a concussion, But what sort of an idiot thinks that you can charge head first into solid steel at the speed and velocity that Goldberg did and not induce any sort of head trauma whether it be a slight headache or a major brain injury. The immediate and unintentional bleeding from the skull was another sign this was not going to go the way that all had hoped despite a hot start.
So not only competing in ridiculous heat, wrestling in their fifties, one of the wrestler's suffering a concussion, and suffering major blood loss, Many have still taken to blaming Goldberg for "dropping" Undertaker on his head during the match. While he maybe should have headed to the back and get himself checked over, Goldberg felt obliged to stay out there and finish off what had been started. Goldberg must have been so dizzy from the incident, causing loss of balance and nausea, then add severe loss of blood, It's amazing how tough Bill Goldberg truly is to have not only got to his feet within minutes of the accident, But actually kept going. You see many wrestling matches end due to unnecessary precautions, But this one was one hell of an incident that gave Goldberg every right to walk out and get medical attention, But no, he stayed out there in the sweltering heat and continued to fight on and perform feats of strength such as lifting up and hoisting a 300 plus pound - seven foot man above his head and attempt to pull off the moves the people paid to see, Even if they went wrong. Bill can't be blamed. He had a responsibility to not only to the fans (That should have shown him the respect he deserved for fighting on in awful conditions), But with being in the main event of a show that many are calling one of the worst WWE's ever presented, He had to continue on and try to end the show on a high note, For that, I respect both.
