WWE Armageddon 2006 holds a special place in my heart as it was the first wrestling DVD my mum ever bought me. Its matches to this day give me the exitement that I felt all those years ago, even though ones such as the inferno match kind of look a little silly, But still, the danger is still there for the stars in the match. Let's go back in time and have a brief review of the event.
1. Kane vs. MVP (Inferno Match)
This match when I was little was the scariest thing going in a wrestling ring, But over time and with age, It hasn't aged as well as the other gimmick matches such as the Punjabi Prison, But you still have to respect that it is a dangerous match that could go horribly wrong... After all, it is fire afterall! MVP played the cowardly heel perfectly in this one, With the monster Kane feeling right at home in the firey hell. Kane won the match and torched his Most Valuable oPonnent. I recall JBL's commentary being one of the selling points of the match.
2. Brian Kendrick & Paul London (c) vs. William Regal & Dave Taylor vs. The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy & Matt Hardy) vs. MNM (Johnny Nitro & Joey Mercury) w/Melina (Four Way Ladder Match for WWE Tag Team Championship)
The match is remembered for its gastly moment where Joey Mercury of MNM suffered a severe facial injury when a Hardy Boyz ladder move saw the corner of the ladder fling up and smack poor Joey so hard it broke his face. Joey was immediatly taken out after the incident and couldn't continue. The match bar this horrifying moment, was an adrenaline filled match and a very memorable ladder match that's definately worth a watch.
3. The Miz vs. The Boogeyman
This is WWE afterall! About as much as you'd expect from the company that produced Big Dick Johnson and Mantaur. No comment needed.
4. Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero w/Vickie Guerrero (Submission Match for WWE United States Championship)
This continued on the bitter feud between Benoit and the nephew of the late great Eddie Guerrero, whom Benoit was close friends with. The match saw Vickie get her due comeuppance, and a Crippler victory soon followed. Any Benoit match is the real deal and looks legit, even against a poor wrestler, And Chavo was anything but a poor opponent! Recomended!
5. Gregory Helms vs. Jimmy Wang Yang (WWE Cruiserweight Championship)
A good cruiserweight title match between two good wrestlers. I enjoyed the look and work of Helms during his reign as Cruiserweight Champion. Helms defeated Yang to continue on his long undisputed reign as champ!
6. The Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy (Last Ride Match)
Another memorable match on this card. It is the second part of this joint feud between MVP and Mr. Kennedy and The Brothers of Destruction. In this match, Undertaker went to war with the loudmouth native from Green Bay! This was a brutal battle with Kennedy showing his main event caliber skills. He looked great, and looked like a true threat to Taker in many moments throughout the match.
7. Batista & John Cena vs. King's Court (King Booker & Finlay) w/Sharmell
This match saw a dream team come together as John Cena of RAW and Batista of SmackDown, who were the respective World Champions of each brand united to take on the King's Court in King Booker and Finlay. While Booker and Finlay didn't appear to be as much as a threat as some other's may have been, both provided a solid challenge to the super-superstar team who weren't as used to teaming as the opponent. Of course the World Champions won, But to see Finlay being viewed as an actual threat to two top champions was good to see.
