NXT at half sail? (08/09/2015)

I MAY GET CRITICISM for this, or it may spark realisation, but I can’t help but feel that there is something amiss recently with NXT. While it’s true that the women of NXT have set the wrestling world on fire, there just seems to be a lack of “must-see” angles with the men. Let me explain that ADRIAN NEVILLE vs. SAMI ZAYN at Takeover: R Evolution had me more excited for any Title match in the last decade. I genuinely felt like a kid again. I felt the drama, the uncertainty, the anticipation, it was a match with a great story behind it, an outstanding performance, a soul-grabbing finish and an unforgettable betrayal. This was the “golden age” of NXT, if you will. Since then, of course, KEVIN OWENS went on to rip through the roster and capture the NXT Title. He became hot property in no time at all.

Then he, along with Neville and THE ASCENSION moved up to the main roster, while Zayn and HIDEO ITAMI have been sidelined with injuries. And this, I believe, is where the problem lies. NXT have lost a great amount of talent in a short period of time, and are now left with a roster barely held together by FINN BÁLOR and ENZO AMORE and BIG CASS. Even SAMOA JOE seems to be an afterthought now. He made a stunning debut, confronting Owens, which seemingly went nowhere.

Women’s Revolution.

The women of NXT have taken full advantage of this opportunity to shine, and more power to them. BAYLEY and SASHA BANKS stole the show in Brooklyn. But EVA MARIE is clearly far from ready for televised matches.
