In a day and age where Professional wrestling has taken to the skies in the form of top rope attacks and flying through the ropes to the outside, Professional wrestling has never been any more dangerous than it is today. From the days of Jimmy Snuka performing the top rope splash, To Mick Foley's "Cactus Clothesline", To the Chris Benoit Diving HeadButt, The level of bodily harm in pro wrestling has risen greatly due to the desire to perform more flashy and more elaborate moves such as twisting and flipping during mid air moves, and creating and innovating moves that have never before been seen in and out of the ring. The constant pressure of wrestlers having to reinvent themselves by changing there look, and adapting new moves is one that forces them to learn and try different moves to wow the crowds like never before.
The danger of this is that most moves that have never been performed before are not done for a reason. Such as the move being too dangerous or just simply too difficult to perform correctly everytime. Now With the top rope dives and attacks, Its obvious to anyone that its called high risk for a reason, But the more complex the move, the more risk is put on both performers to be extra careful when it is being executed. The chance of a top rope move is even more likely than a standard move in the ring simply because of the balance problems of staying steady on the top rope, But with that said even the most easiest of moves in pro wrestling can go Seriously wrong really quickly.
An example of this would be the Sabu accident in an ECW match, A Suplex went horribly wrong, Sabu failed to turn in mid air and came down on his head and sadly broke his neck. A modern day example would be either Samoa Joe breaking Tyson Kidd's Neck with the Muscle Buster, Or Seth Rollins Breaking John Cena's Nose, These prove that you can never be too careful in the wrestling ring. Strong style is a popular variation now a days, and its proving to be a extremely dangerous style, Especially when it goes wrong. The more realistic wrestling gets, the more risk is involved, its obvious science, because if you kick the opponent harder and closer to them, you are sooner or later bound to connect with the kick or attack and cause serious damage.
But the majority of wrestling fans now a days know that pro wrestling is fake to a degree, So why try and risk the performers health and well being attempting to make wrestling look even more real when everyone knows that its scripted?
