IT HAS BEEN ALMOST SEVEN months since we saw SAMI ZAYN in a WWE ring. Following an injury sustained in his acclaimed Raw match with JOHN CENA, and getting beat down by KEVIN OWENS, Zayn returned in the UK, and I - for one - can not am so excited to see him in action again.
I would like to go back to NXT Takeover: R Evolution, exactly a year ago, when I was reminded not only why I loved this business, but what it was like to be a child again. Sami Zayn and NEVILLE somehow took me back to when I fell in love with wrestling at eight years old. The emotion, the drama and the storytelling of thier match was utterly amazing. The big fight feel, the importance of a victory to Sami Zayn, the mutual respect, and the moment of pure jubilation when the new Champion was hoisted in the air was simply magical and captivating. So much that no match has re-captured that feeling inside me.
BAYLEY and SASHA BANKS came very very close, but I suppose Zayn’s triumph was longer in the making. Make Way For Zayn. In May, Zayn send the Canadian crowd into a frenzy when he accepted Cena’s U.S. Title open challenge on Raw. Yes, the match was outstanding, but there was something else I loved about Zayn’s performance. In one match, he managed to show anybody that had never seen him before just how good he was, and how easy it was to get behind him. Zayn has a natural likeability, and now that he has finally returned to the ring, I can only hope that his star is on the rise.
