Women in wrestling have always been under appreciated, But there have been some who have done something about it to stand out and get the attentions of the fans and management. However, It seems although everybody nowadays seem to give all the credit to the success of women's wrestling to WWE and NXT, along with the likes of Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Bayley, But they were merely in the right place at the right time, as I don't believe that it was them that swayed the minds of the bosses. You take a look at Shine and Shimmer Wrestling, And not to mention the TNA Knockouts division, I believe that it was the popularity and success of these companies that made WWE take notice of what the fans wanted, And this can be backed up by the return of the Cruiserweights division, which WWE never truly cared about, until they realised that that was what the people wanted and made the big money for the companies. The success of the smaller and women athletes around the globe made WWE change their mind, and now that WWE are finally taking notice of them, They are acting like Women and Cruiserweights have never existed or have been successful until they have done it in a WWE Ring under the WWE banner.
Even before Banks and Charlotte, Their were dozens of female talents who pushed the limits on what a woman can do in a wrestling ring. Whether it was the Iconic Chyna and Lita, who both smashed and annihilated the shackles that prevented the women from matching the men, Or the next generation of Women's pioneers like Gail Kim, Mickie James, Lisa Marie Varon [Tara] and Melina Perez, who continued to make the Women's division the best as it can be even when the management didn't respect them. When you look at Women's wrestling everywhere else, They just get on with it and go all out every single time they step in a ring and they don't act like WWE Women, Who in my opinion are acting like they are doing something that has never been seen or done before.
I think the way that the way that the new breed of Women in WWE are being to fussy and self indulgent [Especially the nepotism factor of Banks and Charlotte being in WWE after next to little time honing their craft on the indies and paying their dues like every other woman or man has too.] Charlotte debuted in NXT in 2012, without any in-ring practise what so ever, and in a matter of a couple of years was straight at the top, This isn't fair to others like Paige and Natalya, Who started to change WWE's presentation of the Women in the company before Charlotte and Banks but didn't get any credit for the revolution in WWE..
